Projects Immigration Legal Assistance Program:
  • AmeriCorps - New American Integration Program
    • Assist clients with naturalization applications, host community outreach events, develop the first Westfield civics course and naturalization clinic, assist with ESOL courses and job readiness services.

Resettlement:
  • Donation Room- Organize and sort through donations. Prepare household items for newly arrived refugee families.
  • Cultural Orientation - Participate in increasing the scale of Cultural Orientation participants and classes
  • Apartment Setup- Clean and prepare apartments for refugee families. Collect furniture donations. Move furniture into apartments. 
  • Receptionist- Answer telephones and welcome clients
  • Driver- Drive clients to appointments and pick up clients at BDL Airport
  • Case Management- Act as a liaison at appointments and help with special organization and file projects
  • Cultural Mentor- Help a refugee family adjust to their new surroundings
  • Collection Coordinator- Collect non-perishable food, bed linens, towels, blankets, personal toiletries, household cleaning products, kitchen utensils, dishes, and other common household items
Education:
  • ESL Tutor- Provide one on one English practice sessions
  • Teacher's Aide- Provide assistance in the classroom with activities and grading
  • Education Assessment Coordinator- Assist with the coordination of ESL assessments and hand out schedules to students
  • School Impact Program Tutor- Provide tutoring to refugee students in Math, English, History and Sciences
  • Summer Program Volunteer- Provide additional support and translation when working with children during the summer programEmployment:
  • Interpreter- Provide translations between employment specialist and clients or whenever language barrier exists
  • PEERS Volunteer- Provide support to those in the PEERS program by attending outings, interpreting, and additional services

Program Services for New Americans
Projects Immigration Legal Assistance Program:

Case Management Aide: Help newly arriving refugees settle in to their new home by assisting case managers with general case work. Your support is needed in the areas of: assistance with agency and medical appointments; cultural orientation; problem-solving; and assistance with case notes & file maintenance.
 
Education Class Aide: The Education department offers a variety of classes, including ESL, ESL literacy, and ESOL on a variety of levels: Math, Financial Literacy, Computer Literacy, and Health Careers.  Classes run Monday – Friday.  New students are assessed for their education level and assigned to the appropriate class.  Education Class Aides assist the classroom teacher once a week with either a morning or afternoon class.  Aides work under the direction of the teacher to prepare classroom materials and equipment and assist students with classwork as needed.
 
ESOL Tutor:
Ascentria clients have varying levels of English, education, and literacy.  ESOL tutors meet with clients once a week to provide one-to-one practice sessions for English language tutoring and homework help to improve the clients’ English skills.
 
Computer Tutor:
Under the direction of the computer teacher, tutors will provide one-to-one assistance with clients who have varying levels of computer literacy.
 
Employment Aide:
Employment aides support the employment counselors by helping to prepare client resumes, and assist clients with job searches and employment application forms. Employment aides may also help clients to develop job-readiness skills, including interview skills and orientation to the U.S. work culture.
